plastic bags, keeping them clean and dry in the transport containers. The containers are taken to the Port of Seattle to be shipped overseas. The containers are delivered to processors in foreign lands, and the conveyors take the goods to the grading, sorting & sizing rooms. Skilled sorters select wearable clothing from un-wearable garments and sort by season, gender, size and quality. Each country receiving goods have different clothing needs and requirements. Clear plastic is often used for shipping so the recipients can view the goods before opening the bags. Because the second hand clothing is sold by grade and weight, each processing plant weighs the bagged goods before shipping.

Bales of un-wearable garments are ready to ship to buyers who reclaim fibers for the manufacture of paper, cotton fiber, tar paper and 100’s of other uses. Fiber is sold by the pound and factories reclaim cotton, wool & acrylic fibers from un-wearable clothing. Did you know... it takes 5,000 gallons of water to produce enough cotton to make a single cotton shirt. Did you know... every car manufactured uses 25 pounds of un-wearable fiber. Did you know... much of the paper and cardboard we use is made from reclaimed cotton & linens. Cotton fibers from your unwanted clothing are used to produce wipers providing new marketable goods and many jobs. This new material helps under-developed countries balance trade and build a stronger economy from America’s textile waste.
