Retex Northwest offers recycling services for clothing, shoes, backpacks, and other textiles for the Northwest community and our merchants alliances. Our philosophy is providing clothing and jobs to people while eliminating solid waste in our landfills.
Retex Northwest Provides Recycle Bins for Clothing & Shoes
At Retex Northwest, we put clothing into the recycling loop by giving people a convenient way to dispose of their used and unwanted clothing and shoes. Our attractive silver bins and white charts can be found near grocery stores, service stations, and inside shoe stores and dry cleaners throughout the community.
Clothing too warn or stained to wear is graded into a variety of categories. Cotton may be made into rags or form a component for new quality paper. Knitted or woven woolens and similar materials are “pulled” into a fibrous state for reuse by the textile industry. Other types of fabric can be reprocessed into fibers for upholstery, insulation, and even building materials. Buttons and zippers are stripped off for reuse.
Very little is left over at the end of the process. The remaining natural materials are "composed," leaving less than 5% of the total collected as solid waste.
Recycling clothing helps our communities by reducing the size of landfills and it helps the global community by providing clothing and jobs in disadvantaged regions of the world.
